Supersize my impact-decreasing antibiotic exposure rates

Excellent article in CAP Today about decreasing our antibiotic footprint by increasing the availability of molecular testing for viral meningitis.
Anything we can do to reduce prolonged use of antibiotics especially in at-risk hospitalized patients, reduces the acceleration of antibiotic resistance.

Antibiotic Program supersizes impact of molecular testing at Saint Luke's Regional Laboratories in Kansas City, Mo.  They found that by including PharmDs in the process and providing a faster turn around time for PCR testing for enterovirus
(a not uncommon cause of viral meningitis in young people) they were able to reduce ER admits, length of hospital stays as well as antibiotic exposure.
